178 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1704.

Whether It will not be very prejudiciall to the Country and whether it may be proper to Comunicate this to the Generall 12 Assembly or not and in what manner and what measures are fittest to be taken to prevent it. The Board Say it will be extream Burthensome to this Province. And it is Resolved that first of all a Letter be wrote to the Agent for this Province together with an Address to her Majesty And that in Case the Said Agent finds the Matter to be as Reported, to get the Same presented; otherwise that he do not prefferr the Same. And that the Said Agent be cautioned to use his utmost Endeavours to obstruct any such pernicious Designs against this Government, and to give us an Account thereof. Further Resolved that this Affair be laid before the next Session of Assembly in such manner as shall be concerted by this board at their next meeting. Ordered that her Majestys Attorney Generall drawe the Said Address, and write the Said Letter. Mr Joseph Holts Petition Read And Ordered that Edward Hilliard the Church Warden be sumoned to appear before the Councill att their next meeting the fifth of September next. And Ordered that p. 13 the Key be Delivered to Mr Holt till further Orders and in case that parish have any complaint to make against the said Mr Holt that they then appear here. As to his Complaint against the Sherriff Order that Mr Hays's Bond be assigned. John Kings Petition Read And referred to the Considera tion of the Justices of the Provinciall Court. Memdm to write to Mr Bradley. Mr Thomas Bordley Cleark of Ann Arundell County Court his petition for Settlement of Some ffees read. And the Assembly being near at hand the Pettion is refered to the Consideration thereof. Ordered that the Court of Vice Admiralty proceed to the Tryall of the Martinicoe prize Imported by Captain Richard Johnson late Comander of the Briganteen Betty. Her Majesty's Attorney Generall Informs his Excellency and this Boarde that two Jesuites were presented in St Marys County one for Dedecating (consecrating) a popish Chappell and the other for Saying Mass prayed the Advice of this Board what Measures he Should take therein. Whereupon It is Ordered that the Said Jesuites be Sumoned to appear before the Governour and Councill at the next Assembly the Eighth day of September And that the Iustices of St Marys County Court Transmitt the proceedings of their Court relating thereto, before his the Governour & Councill.
