Maryland ss Calvert County March the 9th 1702/3 Lib. X. By Virtue of his Late Majestys Commission directed to his Excellency Nath Blakiston Esqr Govr of Maryland & in his Absence to the Commander in Chief or President of his Maj- estys honble Council impowering him upon just Causes or Reasons to Suspend Any Commander of his Majestys Navy within this Province & to commit him into Custody either on Board his own ship or else where according to their Discretion so it is that Captain Nath Bostock Commander of her Maj estys Eagle Advice Boat has committed some Breaches of Orders given him by this Government & by Complaint & information committed Outrages slighted & Contemned the Power and Authority of this her Majestys Government con trary to his instructions whereupon with the Advice of her Majestys Council I do hereby suspend the said Capt Nath Bostock from his Command on Board the said Ship Eagle & strictly Charge & in her Majestys Name command you to take into your Custody the above named Capt Nath Bostock & him safe keep on Board of her Majestys Eagle Advice Boat until you shall Arrive within the mouth of James River then & there p. 319 to deliver him unto Captain James Moody Commander of her Majestys Ship the Southhampton with this Precept that by him the said Captain Nathaniel Bostock may be secured until his Excellency Govr Nicholson shall dispose of him according to his Discretion to answer before his Excellency or whom he shall appoint to what shall be Objected against him in behalf of her Majesty by this Government hereof fail not at your perill & for so doing this shall be your warrant Given under my hand and Seal the day & year above written Tho Tench President
To the Principal warrt Officer Memd Copy of this sent & other Officers on Board her to his Excellency her Majestys Ship Eagle Advice Boat Majstys Governor of during Capt Bostocks Suspension Virginia Greeting
Then was Produced & read his Excellency the Govr of Vir ginia Letter to the honble President of the 23d of Mar wherein his Excellency acknowledges the receipt of two of his Honours Letters of the 22d of February & 6th instant but not of that sent by the Eagle Advice Boat which is Supposed not to be delivered to his said Excy also his said Excellency was pleased to communicate to this Govt that he had embargoed the Ships in his Government until the 13th of May further his said Ex cellency was pleased to send a Copy of the Orders he had 10
