                  Friday February the 26th 1702/3                  Lib. X.

           The honble her Majstys Council Sate

                  Present as Yesterday

      His Excellency the Lord Cornburys Letter her MajstYs Gov

    ernor of New York to the honble President was read Giving

    an Account in what ill Condition the Forts are there & de

    siring his Honour to take such measures with the Council

    that the Quota ordered by his late Majesty for the Defence

    of the Frontiers of New York be ready early in the Spring

    that they may not want that Assistance

      Ordered that a Letter be wrote to the said Lord Cornbury      p. 306

    signifying that upon receipt of his Majtys Letter the General

    Assembly of this Province have voted three hundred Pounds

    which when his Lordship shall Require pursuant to his said

    Majestys Order will be paid

      Ordered that upon the Lord Cornburys requiring the said

    three hundred pounds pursuant to his Majtys Order the Clark

    of the Committee for apportioning the publick Levy draw the

    Orders upon the Treasurers & see firm Receipts given for the

    same

      Sr Thomas Lawrence her Majestys Secry his Representa

    tion read as followeth vizt

   

   

   

               Annapolis February 25th 1702/3

      To the honble Thomas Tench Esqr President & to the rest

    of the honble Gentlemen of her Majestys Council in Maryland

      Sr Thomas Lawrence her Majestys Secry complaining

    representeth that in July last Mr Cha Carrol Clark of the

    Pattents to the Lord Baltimore told me that there were eighty

    two Patents prepared by him & ready to be sent to Colo

    Henry Darnal Keeper of my Lords Seal to Affix it unto them

    Mr Carrol also delivered to me my List of my part of the

    Fees arising from them amounting to nigh 13000 l Tobacco

    I desired him to order them to be sent to my Office to be

    recorded forthwith because of his intention as he declared of

    Going for England in the Fleet he then desired to buy of

    me my List of fees of 13000 l Tobacco for which he offered

    me little more than 4sh p Cent And demanded in Discount         p. 307

    half the Fees of Searches in the Land Office in my Custody

    that should issue out this last Year & at the same rate I told

    him that I would not sell him my Fees at that Rate and that

    he had nothing to do with the Searches in my Land Office

    which by the Kings Order of February the 13th 1695 were

    expressly to be paid to the Secry even by my Lords Officers
