                     126 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1702.

           

        Lib. X.  Resolved that they bear this Test Witness Our Trusty and

                 well Beloved Thomas Tench Esqr President of Our Council

                 within this our said Province

                  Then was the Great Seal delivered unto his Honour the

                 President as also the several Commissions & Lords of Trade

                 & Foreign Plantations & Secry of States Letters & those

                 from the Commsrs of the Customs Lords of the Admiralty

                 &Ca according to order of the last Council

                  His Honour the President desires the advice of the Board

                 where it may be proper to Lodge them who say they think

                 the Council Office the properest place

                  Resolved that this Board will write to his Excy the Lord

                 Cornbury and Colonel Nicholson her Majesties Governor of

                 New York and Virginia to acquaint them of his Excellency

                 Govr Blackistons departure and the Govt being devolved

                 upon the President & Council & to desire their friendship to

                 this Province

         p. 290  Ordered that the Clerk of the Council prepare the said

                 Letters

           

           

                        Friday July the 31st 1702

                 The Council Sate again present as Yesterday

                  Captain Nathaniel Bostocks Letter of the 29th Inst being

                 read requiring this Board to lend him one hundred pounds

                 Sterl for the support of her Majestys Advice Boat Eagle now

                 attending this Province under his Command

                  The said Captain Bostock being called in was told that the

                 Board has considered of his Letter & are heartily Sorry that

                 it is not in their power to assist him in so great an Exigency

                 & that no instructions have been given this Govt or to the

                 said Captain Bostock to apply to them for any Credit or

                 otherwise

                  And Since that her Majesty has no money here but the 3d

                 p hhd which is particularly directed to be applied in Provid

                 ing this Province with a Constant Magazine of Arms &

                 Ammunition they cannot Supply them out of their own

                 Pocketts not having power to dispose of that money any

                 otherwise than as intended and directed However that her

                 Majestys Service may not Suffer to acquaint Captain Bostock

                 that upon this pressing Occasion they will procure him £100

                 Sterl provided he will give good Country Security to refund

                 the same in some reasonable time

                  It being represented to this Board that the Dissenters are

                 very industrious to draw away the unstable People of this

                 Province who not being Sufficiently instructed in the Princi

                 ples of their Religion are often seduced & that this happens
