10 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1698.
Lib. X. Ordered that the Sheriffs do return an accot of what Vessels Sloops Shallops &Ca have been built since the Revolution & to whom belong & what seafaring men are in their several Counties Ordered that the several Sheriffs do make strict inquiry & return an accot of what persons are in offices which are ren dred unqualified by the late act of Parliament for preventing frauds & regulating abuses in the Plantation trade Ordered that the several Sheriffs give notice that the Free School will be finished in the next spring & that there are two p. 161 payments made to the builders therefore they are to return an Accot of what Subscriptions are made Ordered that the Overseers of the high ways do take due care to have them Cleared this fall according to Law Ordered that the several County Clerks & Clerks of the Vestrys do not fail to return an exact Account of their County levy & of the vestry proceedings according to Law Ordered that the Sheriffs do give due notice to such persons who have granted married Licenses that they send an exact accot of them to his Excellency by the of 8 ber next Ordered that the Several Counties sign & send up their Grievances by their Delegates to his Excellency & Council in Assembly Signed p Order W Bladen Cl Concil

To all to whom these prsents shall Come Greeting Know ye that we of our Speciall Grace Certeine Knowledge and meer motion have Given and Granted and by these prsents do give and grant unto our Trusty and well beloved Thomas Laurence Esqr the Office or place of Secretary of the Province of Maryland in America The Governmt whereof we have into our hands and under our Imediate Care And him the Said Thomas Laurence Secretary of the Province of Maryland in America we do make Ordaine and Constitute by these prsents To have hold Exercise and enjoy the Said Office or p]ace unto the Said Thomas Laurence by himselfe or his Sufficient Deputy dureing our pleasure and the residence of the Said Thomas Laurence in the Said Province together with all rights privi ledges profits perquisites and advantages to the Said Office belonging incident or in any wise Appurteining and in Such maner and forme as any Secry of any of our Provinces in America for or by reason of the Exercise and Execution of Such office or place may Lawfully have receive or enjoy
