Then came Mr William Hutchison with four more of the
Delegates and say the House returne their hearty Thanks to
his Exncy for his Condescension and signifye the Houses will-
ingness to dispense with the Service of their Member and
intreat his Excy to Comissionate him to be their Clarke.
Colonel Hutchins and Thomas Brooke Esqr are Sent to
Comand Mr Speaker and the House to attend his Exncy in
Councill.
Whereupon Mr Speaker and the House came up to attend
his Exncy in Councill.
Who being admitted his Exncy is pleased thus to bespeake
them.
Gentlemen. You have now had a Year and an halfs
Experience of me Which I hope will confirme You in the
Truth of what I have publickly assured you of my best
Endeavours for your Service which I promise I will always
justly performe.
I cannot but acknowledge that all Your Actions in our last
meeting gave me great Satisfaction, for it was mannaged with

that Accord & good Agreemt that there was not the least
Shaddow or Colour for any ill disposed persons to make any
Malitious Remarques upon; And that good Understanding
which We were so happy at first to create will I hope be mu-
tually preserved on both Sides, as it is my fixed Resolution It
shall be inviolably on myne, After which I will give You all the
convincing proofs of what I have Solemnly averred in my
Reguard for the Province in Generall, and every one of You
in particular. Wherefore if you labour under any Difficultys
I am ready to redress them, and assure you I will Suppress
all unnecessary Charges and expences to make you easye
And have the Vanity to believe Your Examination of the
Publick Accompts will convince you of what I have allready
done in that not having since the last Assembly which is tenn
months ago entailed tenn pounds Charge upon you, or any
individuall person in the Province But on the contrary averted
what lay in my power.
Gentlemen. Since it is and ought to be the Great End of
all Generall Assemblys, to consult the honour of God and the
Service of their King and Country the Ignominious Report
which is handed about by some, leads me to acquaint you of
an Order of his most Sacred Maty in Council for the Disanul-
ling the Law which is Entituled the Act for Establishing the
Protestant Religion. The Repealing the said Law gives no
