The petn of George Valentine praying the office of mace
bearer to Serue in the Roome of Danl Canum decd was here
read, and was granted by the house Nemine contradicente,
and he being called into the house, mr Speaker was pleased to

remind him of the duty in the office of Gatekeepr that he take
particular care of the Fencing about the Towne and to secure
the Publick Pasture from Hogs and Cattle &c.
He promised to use his best Endeavour therein, and that
noething shall be wanteing in his Duty soe withdrew
Brought into the House the case of Sir Thomas Laurence
Secry of Maryland which followeth.
Annapolis Aprill the 25th 1704
The present case of her Majestyes secry of Maryland humbly
presented to his Excy Collonell John Seymour her Majestyes
Captaine Genll and commander in chiefe of the sd Province
And humbly Sheweth
That the profitts, ariseing from the Licences, granted by the
justices of every respectiue County in the Province to all
Keepers of Ordinaryes, in this Province yearely hath from the
beginning and Settleing of this Governemt, under the Rt
honble the Lord Baltemore been given and invested in the
Secretary as a considerable Branch of his office, and alwayes
confirmed to him by act of Assembly in Maryland
That upon his late Majesty King William the third of
glorious memory, his Assumeing this Governement, into his
owne hands, and under his imediate care, in the yeare 1692
Collonell Lyonell Copley first Governour of this Province ob-
tained of the Assembly in that yeare to Settle the benefitts
accrewing from the said Ordinary Licences on himselfe in the
same manner, they had alwayes been paid to the Secry here-
tofore
