access to his Excy upon all occasions requireing the same
which his Excy was pleased to Grant them for which Mr
Speaker in the name of them all gave his Excy the hearty
thanks of this house.
Then his Excy was pleased to signify to the house the reason
of theire being now called togeather by speaking to them as
followeth.
Gent.
The last Assembly haveing continued some years I was
advised by his Matys Councill here that notwithstanding all
things had been happily Enacted and concerted by them for
the advantage of the province yett it would be to the generall
Satisfaction of the Inhabitants to have a new Election wherein
I am glad to finde soe good a Judgmt of the people in send-
ing soe many of you whose services in the former Sessions
have soe well deserved from them as alsoe the other Gent :
that appeare with you whose carracters appeare very faire
with me.
I must confess I am much in the Darke as to the State of
our Laws wch are of the Greatest moment to us and were sent
home the Last Assembly, and was not without hopes that long
ere this I should have recd some instructions Concerning them
that if there had been any irregularity or false stepps therein
to have had it corrected this Sessions, but some unexpected
accidents as we are informed have allarmed Europe and noe
shipps arriving from thence in some time we may Justly Con-
jecture has been the reall impediments but we are Crowned
with that blessing in haveing a Prince and patron that will
assert both our Liberty's and propertys with all that vigour
Currage and Conduct that our Selves can hope or wish for.
Gent: I have now been some yeares amongst you wch has
given me the opportunity to pass my scene of probation with
you and I will venture upon all the Severity that reflection can
produce If I have not been strictly just to what I first promised
at my comeing into the Government in making you easy both
in yor persons and purses and hope to rivite and cement that
freindshipp which was then created and I shall allways hold a
Sincere and open way of Dealing the most effectuall meanes
to continue a good Correspondency wch will Equally conduce
to yor Satisfactions as well as my owne.
Whatt we are now mett to consult shalbe proposed and
comunicated to you in the usuall method of Message and con-
ference and I am morrally assured you will never faile me in
those good Expectations I have from you for his Matys Ser-
