Journal.

It is Thought that there Cannot be any Effectual Encourage-
ment given to introduce Coine Among us unless by raising
the Same Equall with our Neighbouring Provinces, wch Cannot

otherwise be done than by Addressing his Maty for his leave
so to do, and att this Juncture his Excellency Seems to have
a Caution given him against the passing this Act as by a Para-
graph in their Ldps the Rt Honble the Lords Commissrs of Trade
and Plantations herewith sent you viz. December 3d 1700 We
observe what you write about the Proposalls made by the As-
sembly for paying the publick Leavys in money We forbear
returning any Answer att Present so materiall a Change re-
quiring Consideration
A Bill for more Speedy Obteining Executions against Per-
sons flying out of the County where Judgment is recovered
agt them, read twice and will Pass
Also an Ordinance of the house for laying the Choptank In-
dians Land read and Assented to.
The foregoing Bills Ordinance Message & the Sherriffe of
Ann Arundel Countys Petitions Sent to the house by Mr Tench,
Colo Addison Mr Frisby and Colo Hammond
Came Mr Bradley and Mr Thos Hamond and bring the fol-
lowing Message

By the house of Delegates May the 16th 1701

This house having taken into Consideration the 3 messages
yesterday by Thomas Tench & John Addison Esqr one relating
to an Agent to be Appointed in England &c which was in the
house read & Debated

It is resolved That the further Consideration thereof be re-
ferred 'till the next Sessions of Assembly
2dly Wherein his Excellency desires this house will Consid-
erately concert whether the Rangers should be Continued or
disbanded which was likewise read and Debated
It was put to the Question whether the Rangers should be
continued or disbanded
And thereupon carried by the Majority of Voices that the
Rangers be utterly disbanded & resolved by the house that
there be no more Committee in the Vacancy of Assemblys
As to the other Message of the Same day relating to the
Additional Duty of 3d p hogshed to be raised &c
It is resolved that a Bill be prepared for Advancement of an
Additional Duty of threepence per hogshed toward the Pay-
ment of the publick Charge of this Province
