within their Districts after the sixth day of June next without
Obliging them to Come to the mouth of James' River to Join
in a fleet or take Convoy and there to remaine till the 12th of
June in Order to Saile and forasmuch as all Ships Trading to
and from the Province of Maryland must of necessity pass be-
tween the Capes of Virginia and so may be protected or con-
voyed by the Ships of War attending this Colony
Therefore by his Excellency and the Councill of State it is
thought Necessary for his Matys Service to Comunicate the
Same unto his Excy Colo Blakiston Governor of Maryland (so
if he thinks fitt) he may give directions to the Merchants Ships
and Vessels in Maryland to take the Oportunity of Joining in
the same fleet or Convoy to defend them from Pyrates &
Privateers and also to desire him for the better Guard and de-
fence of the Coast he will please to give Orders unto Capt

Peter Cood Comander of his Matys Advice Boat the Messenger
that as Conveniency will permitt, the said Advice Boat may
be down in the mouth of James River to pursue such Orders
for his Matys Service as shall from time to time be unto him
given

As also a Letter from the Secretary of the Admiralty giving
Advice of his Matys Ship the Shoram will shortly be relieved
by the Southampton and sent for home about the 12th of June
which is as followeth viz: —

Sr. Admiralty Office 24th Janry 1700
I send this to acquaint you that I have recd Your Letter of
the 11th of Aprill and that Your other Letter of the 10th of
June following to my Lords of the Admiralty Came Safe to
hand and together with the box of Papers relating to the
Pyrates taken by the Shoram off the Capes of Virginia their
Ldps are very sencible of the Service done therein and the
Zeale you shewed to your Country in that particular, and I
doubt not but before this Arrives you will have had an Acct
that many of those Pyraticall Villians have recd theire just
Punishments which I hope will in a great Measure deterr
others for the future
Their Lordships are very Well satisfied with what you write
in the behalfe of Capt Aldred and notwithstanding the Occa-

sion, you formerly had to represent him otherwise, than you
do now, they are pleased in Consideracon of his good Service
in taking the Pyrate Ship to Continue him in their favour
I have not yet heard from you relating to your receipt of
the Passes Sent from hence for Securing the Ships of his
