Journal.

In answer whereto was sent by Mr James Frisby and Mr
Francis Jenkins viz.

By his Excy the Governo' & Councill in Assembly
May the 13th 1701.
Gentn
Since you cannot make an Estimate of what the Charge
will be in Cleaning and Mending the Arms out of Kelter in
each County it is thought fitt that the Colo of each County
view and keep them in good repaire which are now Service-
able & gett all the rest Mended, and what the Charges
amounts to in each County that the respective Colonels
draw notes upon his Excellency the Governor who will pay
the money and Since that Experience Shews us the great
Spoile has been made in Sending the Arms abroad and it
is believed that most of the Countys have already Arms
for their present Defence and in Case any are not so Sup-
plyed upon application to the Governor they will be fur-
nished, and for the better preserving of the Arms for the
future in Case of a Christian Enemy it is adjudged necessary
That a considerable Quantity of Arms be Lodged here and
the Governor will take Care to provide a fitt person to Attend
