granted or settled within our said Province to the end you P. R. O. may receive our especiall directions therein. You shall likewise take especiall care with the advice and consent of our said Councill to regulate all Salaries and Fees belonging to Places or paid upon Emergencies that they be within the bounds of moderation and that no action be made upon any occasion whatsoever. And that God Almighty may be the more inclined to bestow his Blessing upon us and you in the Welfare and Improvement of that our Province you shall take especiall care that he be devoutly and duly served within your Government the Book of Common Prayer as it is now established read Sunday and Holy day and the Blessed Sacrament administered according to the Rights of the Church of England you shall take care that the Churches already built there shall be well and orderly kept and more built as the Colony shall by Gods Blessing be improved and that besides a competent maintenance to be assigned to the Minister of each Church a Convent house be built at the common charge for each Minister you are not to preferr any Minister to any Ecciesiasticall Benefice in that our Province without a Certificate from the Right Reverend the Bishop of London of his being conformable to the doctrine and Dicipline of the Church of England and of a good life and conversation. And if any person already preferred shall appear to you to give Scandall either by his doctrine or man ner you are to use the best means for the Removal of him and to supply the Vacancy in such manner as we have directed and you are to give order forthwith if the same be not already done that every Orthodox Minister within your Government be one of the Vestry in his respective Parish and that no Vestry be held without him except in case of sickness or that after notice of a Vestry summoned he absent himself and you are to enquire whether there be any Minister within your Government who preaches and administers the Sacrament in any Orthodox Church or Chappell without being in due orders whereof you are to give an account to the said Bishop of London. And to the end the Ecclesiasticall Jurisdiction of the said Bishop of London may take place in our Province as far as conveniently may be We do think fit that you give all coun tenance and encouragement in the exercise of the same excepting only the collating to Benefices Granting Lycences for Marriage and probate of Wills which we have reserved to you our Governor or the Commander in Chief for the time being. You are to take care that a Table of Marriages established by the Church of England be hung up in every Orthodox
