478 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.
Lib. X. Mr Christopher Gregory appearing says that on Friday last he was at the house of Mr Robert Mason in St Marys County p. 107 where he saw the said Mr Mason who seemed to be very hearty looked well & walked about the house & Yard The said Mr Gregory relates that being at St Marys County Court last Thursday Mr Philip Clark of that County came to the Court & being asked if he would Surrender himself ac cording to his Excellencys Proclamation refused so to do, whereupon that Court made an order to the Sheriff who took him into his Custody Ordered thereupon that a Letter be writ to Lieut Colo Low to give him an Accot of what W Gregory reports & to require him to bring the said Mr Mason & W Clark before his Excel lency the Govr with all Convenient speed in order to be Ex amined according to a former order of Council Ordered that Mr George Linghan high Sheriff of Calvert County do send a man & Horses for the publick Arms allotted for St Marys County which he is to have Conveyed to Battle Town where upon Notice Lieut Colo Henry Low will send for them to his house in St Marys County Ordered that the said Lieut Colo Henry Low take Care to have the Calvert County men Employed in carryg the said Arms paid out of St Marys County Levy Ordered that Letters be writ to Collo John Addison Colo Iohn Courts & Colo Henry Mitchel to send men & horses to fetch the Arms allotted for Prince Georges Charles and Cal vert Countys p. 108At a Council held at the Port of Annapolis the tenth day of August 1698 Present His Excellency the Governor

Read Lieut Collo Henry Lows Letter of the 7th Instant to his Excellency wherein he acquaints his Excellency that he had taken Mr Philip Clark into his Custody & that Mrs Clark was ready to lye down Whereupon advised & ordered that the said Lieut Colo Low pursue the last Instructions sent him p Iohn Young that if Mrs Clark be in such Condition the Order of Council so far as relating to her be suspended
