                cill Copy of his Excys Proclamation Dated the 29th of March

                1698 Restreining Priests of the Romish Church from going

                to psons houses when Sick &c unsent for p me

            Lib. x.              July 22 1698

                  Council Sate, Present or yesterday.

                  Major Iohn Hammond being sent for Came

                  Mr Richard Smith of Calvert County appearing is told of

                his having been in Company with Mr Thomas Johnson in his

                the said Smiths house when the said Johnson spoke these

             p. 94  words vizt that all the people were Rogues to the Government

                & that he would never take an oath to any but King James &

                that he Countenanced him by Laughing & Grinning thereat

                  Is told that it is expected from him to give Security in two

                thousand pounds Sterl for his appearance at the next Prov

                incial Court to answer to what should be Objected against him

                on his Majestys Behalf & in the mean time to be of good

                behaviour is ordered to withdraw

                  Mr Benjamin Hall of Charles County appearing his Excel

                lency is pleased to tell him that he had an acct of his being

                in Company at Major Walter Smiths when Captain Bowls

                Major Barton & other Company were there Mr Hall says he

                was there when Major Barton Captain Iuniper Captain Bowls

                and Mr White were there

                  And it being Represented that the said W Benjamin Hall

                drank King Iames Health at that time he is told that Security

                is required of him in one thousand pounds Sterl to appear at

                the next provincial Court there to answer to what should be

                objected against him on his Majestys Behalf in the mean time

                to be of good Behaviour

                  And the said. Mr Benjamin Hall offering his Brother Mr

                Elisha Hall to be his Security the said Mr Elisha Hall is not

                thought fit to be accepted of he being already bound for Mr

                Sly in more than he is worth

                  And whereas the said Mr Benjamin Hall hath So ill behaved

                himself and shewn his disloyalty to his present Majesty our

                Sovereign Lord King William the third by promoting

                Iames Interest & drinking his health

             p. 95  Ordered therefore that a new Commission issue to Appoint

                the following persons Commissioners of the peace in Charles

                County & that Mr Hall be left out of that Commission and

               •    Captn Iohn Bayne be added but that the said Captain Bayne

                be not sworn until he is out of his Sheriffalty
