That a Letter be writ to Mr Isaac Milner to the Same effect Lib. X. & to tell him that we have desired Captain Paggen to assist him The said Letters being writ were Signed by his Excellency the Governor & his Majestys honble Council then present Mr Hunter a Romish Priest and Iesuite being sent for Came before the Board & says that he hath been several times at Mr Gerrard Sly's house in St Marys County where he heard him to make reflections upon his Excellency the Governors Proclamations Mr Hunter is required to draw up his Deposition in writing Memd that a Copy of his Excellencys Proclamation Re straining Popish Priests from going to sick peoples houses unsent for was delivered to the said Mr Hunter who gave a receipt therefore The said Mr Hunter is Required to Shew the other Priests his Order of the Said Proclamation he being the Chief of p. 87 them in this Province Ordered that the Sheriff of each County shew the said Proclamation to the Ministers of the several Parishes within their County & give them Copies thereof & where there is no minister to the chief Vestryman Mr Iohn Broadhurst of Calvert County appearing at the Board is asked if he was not in Company with Mr Thomas Iohnson & Captain Richard Smith when Iohnson said that all the people were Rogues to the Govt Mr Broadhurst says he was in W Iohnsons Compa & Capt Smiths Compa The said Mr Broadhurst is ordered to draw up his Deposi tion in writing Mr Notley Rozier of Charles County appearing his Excel lency tells him he has been informed that he has been very often in Mr Sly's Company therefore requires him to give his Deposition what he hath heard the said Sly Mr Cood or others their Associates say in relation to this his Majestys Govt or himself the Governor thereof The said Mr Rozier saith that he hath been often in Mr Sly's Company and will give his Deposition of what he heard Produced & read a Letter from Lieut Collo Low with a warrant to take Mr Robert Mason upon which he made Re turn that he had taken the said Mason who Languished & said that he was not in any Condition to be brought up to this Port of Annapolis without Endangering his Life Wherefore inasmuch as the said Mr Robt Mason is now p. 88 under arrest of the said Sheriff hath so far prevailed with him to returne him Languishing in prison Pretending such his disability of Body to be brought up hither but forasmuch as he hath often Counterfeited & dealt hypocritically upon this
