The said Gentlemen do say they were there at that time when the said health was drunk by Several there but that themselves refused to drink it It was also further Offered that his Excellency, had been made acquainted of such their refusal & how they had expressed their dislike of drinking that health by telling thoge persons that did so that they were a parcell of Rogues & deserting their Company p. 85 Read a Letter to his Excellency from the right honble the Lords of the Council of trade & Foreign Plantations Bearing Date the 21st of March 1697/8 together with a Copy of an Act of Assembly of Jamaica for restraining & punishing Priv vateers &ca which Act being likewise read his Excellency is pleased to take Notice that upon his Grace the Duke of Shrewsburys Letter to him in relation thereto, he did issue his Proclamation for the Apprehending all such Pyrates & Sea Rovers & further to Strengthen the same did the last Council issue an order from this Board to the several Sheriffs of this Province straightly to pursue the directions of the said Procla mation & when it pleases God that the Assembly meets, this Letter and act shall be laid before them Advised that a Letter be writ to Capt Peter Paggen acquainting him that his Excellency has received his, & Com municated it to the Council & that Observing thereby that his Business was So pressing upon him that he was Obliged to commit the Affairs of his Province to wit purchasing Arms &Ca to Mr Isaac we are very glad he made Choice of a person so worthy & discreet that Bills are now sent him for 2491 l. 15s 2d & a Crown in money of wch a List is to be inclosed in the Letter to him to acquaint him that the Bills sent are those which are Conceived most proper for his receipt & had Captain Whitehorn been Cleared his Bill should have been sent him to desire him to buy us Twelve Rheam of Large Ruled Paper According to the Sample sent him that a pair of Long Bullet moulds be sent him by Captain Whiteborn & that what Arms he now buys with the money remitted by Mr Plater the Barrels of them may be of the same Boar to carry such Ball the p. 86 Countrey being Supplyed with Such Molds, that to every pound of Powder to Send in Five Pounds of bar lead the powder to be sent in small Quarter Barrels containing Twenty five Pounds in each Barril that Mr Paggen will order Mr Milner to send an Accot whether Mr Plater remitted money sufficient to purchase the Arms & ammunition according to order of Council & that it will be for his Majestys Service & the Interest of the Country from time to time to send an accot of what Bills he receives & that when the time of payment of any Bills are out he Immediately have them protested great Damage often happening for want of such protest
