456 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.
Lib. x. Whereupon ordered by this Board that the Several Sherifis of this Province give Notice to all Persons & especially the Poorer sort of Inhabitants that they Use their utmost Endeav ours to procure all the Birds, Blew Birds, Baltemore Birds, Black Birds Wth Red Wings & all sorts of Deer & other Beasts of Curriosity which Can be possibly Got his Excellency assuring them that he will see them paid for them unless such As shall be presented to his Majesty & the said several Sher iffs are hereby ordered to take Care to Ship & Consign them as formerly directed & to send the Bills of Loading accord- p. 79 ingly it being his Majestys Express Desire to have such things Procured & Sent Ordered that the several Colonels take care & inquire what became of the Arms & Ammunition the new raised men Car ried up to the Garrison at the falls of Potomack in Prince Georges County & Baltemore County Otdcrcd that the Several Field Officers Change and Dis pose of the Powder according to Ordinance of Assembly Then was read a Letter from the right honble the Lords of the Council for trade & foreign Plantations of the 23d of feb ruary 1697/8 as also a Letter from William Popple Esqr Secry to their Lordships wherein is made mention of a Rheam of Paper lately Received & Lodged with the Clerk of this Board to be made use of according to their Lordships Directions Then Came King Panquas & Armaulauquan two Indians appointed to speak for the Nanticokes & Complain that the honble Collo Charles Hutchins, Nëa Covington Iohn Hans & Christopher Nutter have each of them a Plantation seated upon their Lands att Nanticoke and desire that they may be forewarned of them His Excellency asked them if they had Complained to the Indian Magistrates who say they did but that Thomas Enals & Tho Hicks took no Notice of them His Excellency tells them he is sorry they have given them selves this trouble but what they now say will be writ to Major p. 8o Ennals & Mr Hicks who will be Directed to settle this matter which if they cannot they are to draw out & state the matter to his Excellency & his Majestys honble Council at the next Provincial Court where it will be then Considered The said Indians are warned not to take any Notice of that Felton that calls himself Emperor of Nanticoke for that he is not appointed by this Govt neither does his Excellency look upon him so to be Came King Nicanoughtough a Choptank Indian above Cambridge with Five of his great men, says that he is Com- lain to his Excllcy about his Land upon which Major Taylor Henry Thomas, Mr John Anderson and three more have Plantations
