                Annapolis Iuly the 9th 1698      Lib. X.

    

       Memd that whereas his Majestys honble Council was ap.

     pointed to meet at this Port upon the 7th Instant, did not

     according to the said Appointment, but Lieut Collo Henry

     Low high Sheriff of St Marys County made Returne to the

     Clerk of this Board of the Praecept he had to apprehend Mr

     Iohn Cood Senr Mr Gerrard Slye Mr Robt Mason Mr Philip

     Clark &ca vizt

       That by Virtue thereof he had taken the Body of Mr Ger

     rard Sly of St Marys County & Mr Sam' Cooksey but that as

     to Mr John Cood he was fled Mr Philip Clark Absconded &

     Mr Robert Mason was languishing

       And his Excellency the Governor being by the Clerk of the

     Council made acquainted therewith and that Lieut Collo Low

     had brought Mr Gerrard Sly to town together with Mr

     Cooksey

       His Excellency ordered the Clerk of the Council to acquaint

     Lieut Collo Low that he required him immediately to bring

     Mr Sly before him. Whereupon the said Collo Low imme- 64

     diately brought the said Sly before his Excellency the said Mr

     Sly Coming into his Excellencys presence in a proud Scornful

     manner & setting his Arms on Kinbow told his Excellency he

     hoped he should be used like a Gentleman and Clapped him

     self down in a Chair over against his Excellency; whereupon

     his Excellency was pleased to tell him he should be used

     according to his merits & upon the said Slys speaking to him

     by the Title of Mr Nicholson only his Excellency required of

     him to Answer whether he knew him to be his most Sacred

     Majestys Governor of this Province Whereupon the said Mr

     Sly having been Commanded to Rise up from his Seat told

     his Excellency he did acknowledge him to be the Kings Gov

     ernor

       Mr Sly tells his Excellency he has done nothing but what

     he will own & Iustify & what he was Commanded to do by

     the Secretary of State

       Whereupon his Excellency asked him for his Order for so

     doing to which the said Mr Sly made no Reply

       Lieut Colo Low is ordered to keep him in Custody until the

     next Council meets & accordingly withdrew with the said

     W Sly

       Mr Samuel Cooksey being brought before his Excllcy who

     was informed of his the said Cookseys with Sly Cood Mason

     & Clark & that he had been privy to several of their Cabals

     & Combinations against this Governmt Mr Richard Beard

     high Sheriff of Ann Arundell County is Ordered to take the

     said Cooksey into his Custody & to keep Seperate from the

     said Sly
