were prsent Connetectah King of the Susquehanahs Meauro- Lib. X. way King of the Shananoles with Penascoh his Coadjutant p. 195 & Owhahala King of the Delewares theire great men Sitting on one side there Interpreters Standing behind them, The Interpreters Apointed by us being Capt Hanse & Hendrick Peterson & forasmuch as the Indians had brought french men with them we Choose & swore Jacob Burghway truly to deliver what he should receive from [them] or by us should be Offered to the Indians according to theire Respective Nations thereby proposeing to facilitate the Treaty none of our Interprters being pfect in that tongue The Interpreters Chosen and Appointed by the Susquehannahs was Lewee the ffrench man & Sewackutt als horsecourser & Beshaccus a Dellaware & on the pte of the Shavanoles Martine A ffrench man, for the Dellawares our own Interprters. first we proceeded to acquaint the Susquehannahs and Shavanoles that we had according to Appointmt mett & waited theire Comeing for the Space of 4 days not without Some dissatisfaction for theire non Appearance to which they Answered that the Cause of theire Delay proceeded not from any Careless neglect of theire promise or Jealousie they had of the English but were hindred in theire Iourney by the great freshes that filled the Runns occasioned by the great Raine as fell the day preceeding the Day Appointed for our treaty Whereupon by our Interprtrs we gave them to Understand theire reason was Sufficient to Excuse them att which they were well pleased and shook hands in token of friendship. Wee next proceeded to acquaint the Susquehanah King that the presents by him Sent by Beshaccus to Coll Thomson for the use of his Excy were delivered according to request that they Were Kindly accepted tht his Excy had Expected to see them and the Rest of the Kings att Annapolis where he Intended to make them honble Satisfaction for them on wch he Replyed So they were but accepted he was well Satisfyed & thereupon shook hands in token of friendship with us againe we next acquainted the King of the Shavanoles that the prsents by them delivered for the use of the Governor to Coll Herman were never Reced by his Excelency nor any acctt of P. 196 them att which they seemed much dissatisfyed saying they had delivered him for his Excellency's use Twenty Beavers ten Large drest Skins & one Otter and wondred that they never had received any acctt whether they were accepted or not to wch we Replyed it was not theire prsent but theire good will his Excy looked upon att which they were well pleased and shook hands as the former. We farther acquainted the Kings of the Susquehannahs and Shananoles that Certain Indians lying back upon the
