      A Letter from Mr William Nevil Riding Surveyor at the Lib. X.

     head of the Bay unto his Excellency sent & directed about

     his Seizure of a Sloop & some Goods is by order referred to

     his Majestys Lawyers & to Geo Plater Esqr as the Kings

     receiver to make reports &Ca

    

    

    

                   March the 22d 1697/8

      The Council again Sate & were present as Yesterday

      Upon the representation & motion of the honble Thos

     Tench Esqr how that Mr Plater was much out of Order &

     was afraid if he should continue Longer in Town he should

     be forced to Lye by it

      Leave is given Mr Plater to go home

      A petition of W William Mabb Commander of the Ship

     Recovery of London being presented to this Board & read

     Signifying thereby his having made entry of his Vessel with

     the Officers of Puttuxent District & there Lodged his Cer

     tificate and Coquets And Given Bond for the Countrey Duties

     & performed what the Law requires And that whereas his

     Business Leading him to Choptank River he hath there been

     denied to Unload and Trade Notwithstanding such his Entry

     unless he would make a new Entry in that port for all which

     he prayed redress

      Thereupon the said Matter was fully heard & Considered

     & this Board having perused the Certificate and permit

     granted by the said Officers for unloading the said Vessel

     &ca do think the same altogether unsufficient to warrant his

     Unloading or trading for Tobacco on Board not having

     Expressed whether the said Mabb had produced Legal Cer

     tificates of his Giving Bond for the Dutys of this Country &Ca

     on which accot he now lies Lyable to Seizure which is thought

     fit to be Remarqued for a Caution to the said Officers for the p.

     Forfeiture And forasmuch as the said Officers for the For

     feiture & forasmuch as the said port of Wm Stadt is taken

     by this Board to be a District & proper place of Eiitery

     & all Ships & Vessels coming their are Directed to make the

     Entry Accordingly

      Ordered therefore that the Officers & Puttuxent District

     aforesaid do upon Sight hereof Surrender up to Willm Mabb

     the petr as well the Certificates Cocquets & other papers

     Lodged with them at his Entry as also what Bonds he there

     passed for any duties or otherwise to be Cancelled & that he

     thereby may be enabled to make his Entry according to Law

     in the proper place assigned

      A petition of the honble Collo Henry Iowles Referred to

     the Kings Receiver
