Vizt By his Exncy the Governr & Councill, JanrY 11th 1697/8
Ordered that the Sherriffs give due notice to all persons (qualifyed to vote for Delegates within their respective Baly wicks) that they omit not to be at the Election when appointed, and procced in all things according to the directions of the Act of Assembly in such case. And that the Sheriffs make returne of the Indentures according to Law And tht they likewise give notice that notwithstanding the adjournment of the Provinciall Court the Court of Chancery and the Comissaries Court will sitt the last Tuesday of ffebry as also the Governr & Councill for hearing appeals & writts of Error. Ordered that the Colonel or Commander in Chief of the Militia in each County within this Province give notice to their severall Officers to send Lists of their respective Troops and Companies & accoutremnts &ca (where the same are not already sent) pursuant to former Order as also lists of the New forces Ordered to be raised, and of the Publick Arms & Ammunition belonging to each County; and that they likewise send an accot of what publick powder they have changed pursuant to the Ordinance of Assembly and what remains; and whether the publick Arm's are well fitted & fixt up; and tht the sd Officers have notice by the Sherriffs to be at the Election of Delegates within their respective Counties and signify to the Persons (chosen to serve for the same) their opinion concerning the Militia as now Regulated, whether it would not be better to new modell the same according to the manner of England & former proposalls in Assembly made to that purpose And ‘tis hcrcby furthcr Ordered that the Sheriffs (after the Election of Delegates is over) give due notice to the Severall persons chosen that they be very carefull to thoroughly inform them selves of the true state and Condition of the respective Counties for wch they serve, particularly in all the foregoing matters observed to the Militia Officers And tht they likewise inform themselves of the true State & Condition of the respective County for wch they serve, particularly in all the foregoing matters observed to the Militia Officers And tht they likewise inform themselves how the Tobacco raised for defraying the Publick charge of the Province & re spective Counties is disposed off, and what way the 40 p poll is laid out; what Condition the Churches and Court
