358 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.

Whereas his Exncy having recd his Majtes Royall Commands for sending over all the Wilde Deer, Turkeys, Partridges, Mocking birds and all other sorts of Birds and wilde Creatures as can be gott. It is Ordered that the Sherriffs give publick notice thereof in their respective Counties in Order to procure as many of every sort as possible, whose readiness in Comply ance herewith will not a little demonstrate their returne of gratitude to his Majesty who hath done & effected so great things for his Subjects, hereby signifying that his Exncy will make Satisfaction for what are delivered to his Ordre (upon advice given him where they are to be had) if they don't think fitt to send the same as a present to his Majesty out of their own free will. tendance &ca attend the Comissaryes Court appointed to be held this day by reason of his great indisposition of boddy desireing to be excused untill he has a litle recov ered his health and in a capacity to travel &ca Mr Wm Edward Randolph Esqr Surveyr Genrll of his Majtes Customs in the Plantations and Coloneys
Surveyrs on the Continent of America and Islands adjacent. Comissn &ca lo William Wyvill Gent. By virtue of a Deputation granted me by the Honoble the Comissrs of his Majtes Customs in London bearing date the thirteenth day of October 1691. Andinpursuance likewiseof Additional articles of Instructions from their Honors, Dated at the Custom House in London the 22nd day of September 1697. Directing me amongst other things that in case of any vacancy by the death of any Officer of the Customs or otherwise to appoint some fitt & able person to serve therein, giving notice thereof for their Honors directions therein. And finding an absolute necessity of having a Riding Surveyor not only in the Rivers of Bohemia and Sassafras But also at the heads of all the Rivers on the Eastern Shore of the Province of Mary land unto Susquehannah. I doe hereby appoint you the said William Wyvill to be Riding Surveyor of his Majtes Customs at the Rivers of Bohemia and Sassafras and also at all the
