D. & others to research my house & all my papers again wth another order of Council with all to bring me up to Annapolis but it pleased God so to lay his hand upon me that that Jour ney was prevented the Substance of that Ordr was that you were indebted unto the King four hundred and odd pounds by balla of accots made up, and that you and I kept Corre spondence together on purpose to defraud his Majesty, and it comes from your own talk from Virginia side as far as can understand for Perrey was informed the last time he was over that you often in Company should say that you could have your Business done in Maryland in spite of the Governors teeth, & some other your backward friends in Maryland hath seconded it that is some of the Vestry of the uper Parish & I had cleard my self of your Books and sent them you long since if had not been afflicted with this distemper it hath held me this 5 months, I am very sorry that things fallen out so, and do not know how any prudence could have avoyded it un!ess I had some notice before hand Sr my due respects to you and your Lady I rest ST yours to Command Robt Mason.
The above Letter was directed as follows Vizt
To Coll John Cood These with Care I prey p. 210 [Naval Officers Bond.] Maryland ss Know all men by these prsents that we Wil liam Bladen Edwd Dorsey and Charles Carroll gentn are here by held and firmly bound unto are Sovreigne Lord King Wil liam the Third &c in the full and Just Sume of five hundred pounds Sterl to the true paymt whereof to be made unto our said Sovreigne Lord the King his heires and Successors we bind our selves and every of us and every of our heires Exrs and Admrs Sevrally and Joyntly for the whole and in the whole firmly by these prsents sealed & Dated this 24th of December 1697. The Condition of this Obligation is such that if the above bound William Bladen who is appointed the Collectr of the porte and District of Annapolis shall well and faithfully Exe cute the sd Office and render a Just and true account of and pay the one peny p pound by him to be received according to his Matys Royall grant and Charter to the Colledge of William
