cency of holding any correspondence wth Mr Cood, Ordered Lib. H. D. that an answer thereto be written to know how he then came by those eight Bookes of fees belonging to the sd Cood, & how he durst presume to Collect any of those debts for him selfe when he knew such a debt was claim'd from him as due to his MajtY and that he come up to the Port of Annapolis so soon as he is in a capacity or able to travell together with Mr Plater, and tht he bring up his Bookes of Accounts with him. A Letter of Mr Platers, in relation to the foregoing affair being also produced & read, was ordered to be answer'd and those eight forementioned Books of ffees and accot to be return'd to him for his better directions and guidance in securing those debts. His Exncy representing to the Board how that he had received information from Coll' Addison & others that Capt Mason of Stafford County in his Majtes Colony in Virginia had sold to Mr Willm Chew of Calvert County within this Province, a considerable quantity of Skinns; for wch it is said he was to returne to the Sd Capt Mason, powder & Shott, or as much as he could possibly procure for him. Ordered that the said William Chew putt in Writing what dealings he had wth Capt Mason in that nature, what quantity of Skinns he purchased or recd and what returne he was to make for them, and tht he prsent the same to this Board accordingly in Order to make Oath thereto. Pursuant to WCh said Order the sd Chew presents the fol lowing answer to the Board Vizt In obedience to the within Order. These are humbly to Certify tht I the within named William Chew did actually receive a hundred Deer Skinns of Capt Mason within named the produce whereoff was to purchase Powder and high Swann Shott, according as I could agree. Decemt the 3d 1697. The above returne was sworn to before his Exncy in Councill by the above named William Chew. H: Denton Cl Concil
Vpon further representation also of his Exncy the following p. 6io Proclamation for prohibiting the Exportation of Powder & Ball was by Order prepared and signed by his Exncy and passed the Broad Seale of the Province Vizt
