    A Iournall of a Iourney from Nanjemy in Charles County

    Maryland to Iames Town in Virginia by Thoms Tench Esqr

    and William Dent being sent by his Exncy the Governr &

    Councill of Maryland to his Exncy Sr Edmund Andros Governr

    of Virginia on express about the Indians &ca 1697.

    Tuesday 2nd of Novemr 1697.

      About eight in the Morning we sett out from Willm Dents

    at Nanjemy and got our horses over Potomock & travelled to

    Whitings fferry on Rappahannock in Virginia & there lodged

    that night.

      Wednesday 3d Novemr We passed Rappahannock iferry

    at Whitings and so to Yarboroughs iferry on the ifreshes

    Pomunkey River & there lodged that night.

      Thursday 4th We passed Pomunkey iferry and that Even

    ing came to Iames Towne, calling at Collo Ludwells as we

    went, and because we understood that the Assembly was

    ended we sent Perry to his Sr Edmunds house to give

    our service and an accot of our arrival desiring to know when

    we might wait on his Exncy And Perry meeting us again &

    acquainting us that his Exncy was at home & ready to receive

    us. we immediately took horses and went to his house, deliv

    ered his Letter from his Exncy the Governr of Maryland wch

    when read his Exncy Sr Edmund Andros desired to know what

    we had to Offer whereupon we perused our Instructions &

    gave his Exncy a Verball account of what we had given us in

    charge to wch his Exncy reply'd that in reguard it consisted of

    divers heads to which divers answers might be requisite; he

    desired if we thought fit that what we had to Say might be

    laid before him in Writing to prevent all mistakes, of wch we

    desired time to consider, wch was granted and after some

    time we took leave & returned to one Rawlins in Iames

    Towne our Lodgings, and we heard that that night his Exncy

    Sent to Coll Iennings to some of the Councill that were there,

    who the same day went from thence to Stopp them there till

    further Orders.

      Fryday 5th of Novemr We went again to his Exncys house,
