        Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98. 281

   

      The said report is approved off & Ordered thereon tht as Lib. H. D.

    well Copy of the said Order of Refference from this Board as

    of the said Report be sent to the Vestry of that Parish where

    the said Mr Layfield lives and that they in all things pursue

    the directions there laid down.

      Ordered that (according to the opinion of the Kings Law

    yers this day read at the Board) the Sherriff of Somrsett

    County do upon sight hereof take care to sumons the Rev

    erend Mr Iames Brechin, Mr Samll Davies and Mr Wm Denice

    Master of the Mary (persons said to be present & assenting

    to a certain pretended Marriage betwixt Mr George Layfield

    and Mrs Priscilla White of the said County) to be and appear

    before his Exncy in Councill the last Tuesday in ffebry next to

    answer the prcemises, whereof they are in no wise to faile at

    their perill.

      Produced & read a Letter by his Exncy recd from Mr Edwd

    Green his Majtys Surveyor of Lands in Somrsett County; Sig

    nifying that his occasions call him much abroad, and that he is

    providing to remove himselfe to the Port of Annapolis to

    follow the brewing Trade So that he cannot attend the duty

    of his said office, therefore desires to be dismist therefrom and

    some other Person appointed. Ordered that the same be

    referred to Mr ffrancis Jenckins and M' John West of the said

    County to recommend some other fitt and capable person to

    be constituted in his stead.

   

   

   

                  October the 25th 1697.

         The Council again sate and were present.

      His Exncy ffrans Nicholson Esqr Capt Gen” &ca

             Sr Thomas Laurence Baront Secry

               Collo Henry Jowles

               Collo Geo: Robotham

               Collo Charles Hutchins

      The Honoble Collo George Robotham Judge of his Majtes

    Court of Vice Admiralty on the Eastern Shoare had this day

    administred to him in Council, the Oaths appointed by Act of

    Parliament to be taken instead of the Oaths of Alegiance &

    Supremacy; as also the Oath usually taken by the Judge of

    the said Court and Subscribed to the Test.

      The said Collo Robotham is hereby impowered & Authorized

    to Administer the aforementioned Oaths appointed by Act of

    Parliament &ca as also the usuall Oath of Register & that of p. 595

    Marshall to his Regr & Marshall of the said Court, who are

    likewise to have tender'd to them the Test to be Subscribed
