And that when the sd Sherriff has found out his place of residence he go to the next Justice of the peace where the said Bartlett lives and inform himselfe about the truth of the premises, and take unto his Custody as well the Chief Vestryman of the Parish where he is admitted, as the P. 583 said Bartlett & accordingly send them to the Port of Ann apolis to answer the premises before his Exncy the Governr in Order to be dealt withall according to Law.
October the 19th 1697. Came Mr Charles Carroll and presented the following Letter by him recd from Mr Robt Mason high Sherriff of St Maryes County humbly desireing the result of this Board, as to the contents thereof; The sd Letr was by Order read as follows Vizt
Mr Charles Carroll Sr I understand you have heard of the accident at Matta panny of the Mans being kill'd there. The horse I seiz'd for the King but broake loose from my Plantation, and hear tht by yor Order he is seiz'd since for my Lord; where the prop erty lyes I know not; but I request you to be so kind as to go along wth Mr Muschamp to his EXnCY and discourse it with him, so that I may be clear from blame: pray Sr think of this Business, for if any fault at my doore, you are sensible what a noise it will make. My most humble Service to yor selfe and Lady, I am St Your very humble Servant. October 9th 1697. Robt Mason.
Ordered that the above mentioned horse be kept where he is untill his Majtes pleasure be further known, as to such matters. Came Capt John Oldton, and Capt Richard Brightwell Comandrs of the Rangers upon Potomock and Baltimore and presented the two following accounts of their Ranging Vizt Whereas it has pleased the Governr & Councill to demand of us Rangers in Baltimore County to give an account how our Road lyes from our Garrison to Deer Creek & Patapsco, wch according to our best knowledge is thus, ifrom our Garri son to the North side of Dear Creek 40 Miles thus to Gunn powder main falls 1 2 miles, thence to the Litle falls eight miles thence to a branch of winters Runn eight miles thence to the North side of Deer Creek 12 miles, thence to the neerest Inhabitants sixteen miles.
