                   252 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.

           

           Lib. H. D. accordingly authorised constituted & empower'd to be

                  Generll Interpreter for this Government upon any Treaty to

                  be made with the Indians on the Western Shore, and tht no

                  other prson presume to take upon him tht office besides;

                  hereby Empowering the Honoble Coll Ino Courts to administer

               p.     577 an Oath to the sd Moore, faithfully to discharge his duty

                  therein, whensoever he is by any Authority thereunto called

                  or required.

                    Ordered that Mr Richard Cloud of St Maries County Majr

                  James Smallwood of Charles County and Major Willm Barton

                  of Prince Georges County do (upon sight hereof) use their

                  utmost endeavour for the seizing and apprehending a certain

                  Indian called Mountague, Represented to be an Enemy to

                  this Government and that (if taken) they or any of them

                  under safe & secure conduct send him to be and appear

                  before his EXnCY at the Port of Annapolis, to be dealt withall

                  according to Law.

           

           

           

                          October the 21st 1697.

           

                    Memorandum that the Armes wch the men to be raised are

                  to have, be all of a sort, if possible, or at least one half of

                  them, and the other halfe of another sort.

           

                    Ordered tht what Arms & Amunition belong to Charles

                  County, be equally proportion'd wth those belonging to Prince

                  Georges County, and the like to be done in St Maryes

                  County, so that the Arms & Amunition of those three

                  Counties be equally divided amongst them.

                    Ordered that no person whatsoever presume to keep or

                  detain in their Custody or possession any publick arms

                  belonging to the Countrey, which have been purchased &

                  providcd cither since his Majestes happy Government here, or

                  in the time of the Lord Baltimore; but that they deliver such

                  arms up to the next Militia officer, under penalty of being

                  prosecuted upon the Statute of King Charles the Second for

                  felony, and that all Officers having any Publick arms or

                  ammunition in their Custody to give an account thereof to

                  the Colonel of the County, who is to returne a Generall List

                  as well of those accounts he receives, as of what arms &

                  ammunition he has in his own custody, unto his Exncy the

                  Governr by the first of the next Provincll Court or sooner if

                  possible hereby Comanding the Sherriffs to publish this in all

                  publick places Wthjfl their respective Counties and to give the

                  Militia & field officers Copies hereof for their information
