250 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.
Lib. H. D. Georges County be constituted & empower'd, and he is hereby accordingly appointed, Constituted & empowered to go as often as he shall see necessary to vissit the Garrison, and the other men appointed to Range the Eastern branch, at Potomock to see tht they discharge their duty & for to give them such necessary Orders as he shall think requisite for his Majties service. And further that if the Men to be raised & sent thither cannot find themselves Wth Provisions, so tht they need not be necessitated to depart from their severall posts, he furnish them therewith in moderation, the wch is to be deducted out of their wages & allowed for in the publick leavy of this Province; as also is to be allowed for his trouble & pains in Vissitting the sd men & Garrison.
Octobr the 19th 1697.
Ordered that the Roads on each side the Eastern branch of Potomock be well cleared from Plantation to Plantation and from the said Plantations to the Garrison. Ordered that the Honoble Coll Ino Addison discourse Coll Ninian Beale whether or no he be willing to continue in the Cornission he already has for raising men upon any disturb ance of Indians
October the 20th 1697. Ordered that in case any of the men to be raised for the service of this Province, or their officers should dye or re move out of the Countrey or be for any misdemeanor dis missed, that then the Colonells of the Counties take care p. 576 imediately to fill up their vacant places wth other men; and tht the Honoble Coll John Addison in like manner take care to see tht the thirteen men and two Officers appointed for strengthening the Garrison and frontiers of Potomock be allwaies compleat that number by putting in other persons upon any such accident happening. Ordered that the forty five men to be raised in Ann Arrun deli County and the fifteen men to be raised in Baltimore County be divided into two Troops; Vizt Thirty in each Troop who are to have for their officers to Comand them, a Captain a Lieutent a Coronett & Quarter master, and that those of Baltimore County be joyned to the neerest of those men tht are to be raised in Ann Arrundel County aforesaid to make up that Troop. That the forty men to be raised in St Maries County be an intire Troop by it seife as also the forty to be raised in Calvert County.
