240 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.
Lib. IT. D. upon any warning to be putt in a Warlike posture of defence, in manner following, Vizt That the Counties of St Maries, Charles and Prince Georges furnish out and raise ioo men; who may be ready upon all occasions to assist and strengthen the ffrontiers of Potomock. And that the Counties of Ann Arrundell, Calvert and Balti more do in like manner furnish and raise 100 men more, who may be ready upon all occasions to assist and strengthen the ffrontiers of Baltimore County aforesaid: That the said Men & horses be chosen, and approved off by the ffield officers of the said respective Counties. That a particular place be assigned in each County, whereof the said men may have notice to repair thither to Ren devouz, and tht care be taken to have lodged in those places such a quantity of Publick Armes & ammunition (to be well fixt & fitted) as will well accoutre the said Men in all p. 568 points. And to the end the sd 200 men may be proportion- ably chosen according to the number of Taxables in each of the said Counties they do think that Ann Arrundell County may raise forty five of the said men, Calvert County forty Baltimore County fifteen, St Maryes County forty Charles County forty and Prince Georges County twenty. They do further agree that it will be likewise necessary that a like number of men be in like manner raised & chosen by the field Officers on the five Counties on the Eastern Shoare who may be ready upon any occasion or warning to strengthen the ifrontiers on that side the Bay. And tht places be assigned also for their Rendevouz and the publick arms well fitted & fixt for that purpose and lodged together with a Suitable quantity of amunition in manner afore expressed. That Caecill County raise thirty of the said men, Kent County Thirty, Talbott County fifty seaven, Dorchester County thirty and Somersett County fifty three. That the rest of the Militia put themselves in what posture of defence they can; and tht Smiths be imprest & Overseers appointed in each County to see that all the Publick armes be well fitted & ffixt up. It being late in the night, this Comittee leaves all other matters & proposalls to be considered off to morrow morning Eight a Clock unto the House of the Honoble Sr Thorns Laurence Secry.
Octobr 16th 1697. The Comittee according to adjournment again mett and were called Over, and were absent, Mr Wattkins, Mr Holland, and Mr Taylor. Then was read over what was done yesterday.
