    further attendance. His EXnCY being satisfyed by a Letter Lib. H. D.

    since recd that he was not blameable as was then repre

    sented in Council.

      Mr Robt Vngle Regr of his Majtys Court of Vice admiralty

    on the Eastern Shore, signifying to this Board how that being

    concern'd in Trade and that his business would necessarily

    call him for England, so tht he could not possibly attend the

    execution of his said Comission; therefore humbly prayed he

    might be dismist therefrom and some other person appointed,

    which is accordingly granted him and his Comission surren

    dered up at the Board.           October the 15th 1697.           p. 561

         The Councill again sate and were present.

      Pursuant to sumons yesterday the severall Gentlemen

    appointed Mett his Exncy & Councill this day at the State

    house to consult about Indian Affairs. George Plater Esqr

    Majt Willm Dent, and Mr Robt Gouldesborough his Majties

    Counsell at Law came likewise.

      His Exncy is pleased to tell them to the effect following

    Vizt

      That the occation of Calling them together at this time

    was about the late murther committed (by Indians) at the

    Garrison upon Potomock; but whether it might be advisable

    to break out into a Warr with them or not, he could not yett

    determine.

      That he considered the calling of an Assembly upon this

    occasion could not so well be done now, by reason of the

    Winter Season, coming on & that an Assembly could not

    possibly be gott together under forty dayes time, besides the

    great charge which thereon would necessarily accrue; having

    no other business at present inductive to call them. But is in

    hopes that such methods may be found out (upon the mature

    consultation of the Gentlemen now present) as may secure

    this his Majestes Province from the assaults & attempts of any
