                  224 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.

            Lib. H. D.           Octobr 14th 1697.

           

                  May it please yor Exncy

                   We have considered the within written return of the Justices

                  of Calvert County Court relating to Iams Cranford, and we

                  are of opinion that it is contempt in the Justices in not obeying

                  yor Exncys ordr we are also of opinion that yor Exncy may dis

                  miss or suspend any person from practiceing the Law within

                  this Province, upon a just Sufficient cause shown to yor Exncy

                  The process proper agt the sd Justices is a Venire facias Unless

                  yr Exncy will be pleased to call them before yr Selfe and the

                  Honoble his Majty's Privy Councill All which we do humbly

                  Submitt to yor Excy.

                              Coll: Nicholas Greenberry

                              Thomas Tench Esqr

                         James ifrisbey Esqr      

           

                   Ordered that Mr Iohn Hawkins of Kent County be inserted

                  in the new Provincial Comission in the room & stead of Major

                  Thoms Smith of the said County who by motion, of Coll:

                  Hinson and himselfe was put into the new Comission of the

                  peace for that County.

                   Vpon motion of Capt Richard Brightwell Comandr of the

                  party of Rangers upon Potomock. Ordered tht the Cornissary

                  take no fees for any Administration granted out upon the

                  Estate of John Baker, one of the said Rangers lately kill'd at

                  the Garrison, by reason the Estate is small, and that he was

                  kill'd in the Kings Service.

                   Ordered that the Rangers belonging to the. Garrisons of

                  Potomock and Baltimore be permitted to take up one or two

                  wild unmarked horses a piece (being deemed for his Majes

                  tyes Service) provided they break & train them up for the

                  use of their Ranging, and not sell them.
