     At a Council met and held at the Port of Annapolis the 12th

    day of October in the ninth year of the reign of our Sovereign

    Lord King William the third Annoq Dom. 1697

   

                         Present

   

         His  Exncy ffran: Nicholson Esqr Capt Genrll

            Sr Thorns Laurence Barontt Secry

             Coll: Henry Jowles

             Coll: Nicho Greenberry

              Thoms Tench Esqr

   

     Ordered that a certain returne made from the Justices of

    Calvert County Court here produced & read (in relation to a

    late Ordr of his Exncy passed for suspending & debarring Mr

    Iams Cran ford from practiceing as an Attorney in any of the

    Courts within this Province or undertaking any new causes

    within the same) be referred to the Kings Lawyers for them

    to make report whether the Return be not contempt to his

    Exncys said Ordr in refusing to yield obedience thereto; and

    whether it be not the Kings prerogative to dismiss or suspend

    any persons from practiceing the Law as he thinks fitt. And

    lastly that they make report what course is best to be taken

    agt the Justices for such their returne.
