     At a Councill by Speciall Appointmt Met & held at the Lib. H. 1).

   Port of Annapolis, the third day of October, in the Ninth year

   of the Reign of our Soveraign Lord King William the third

   &ca

     Annoq Domini, 1697.

   Ordr for Rais- Vpon a Letter this day Recd at the Board bear

   ing 30: Men & Officers &c: to ing date the 30th of Septembr last past sent by

  

   strengthen the Express from the honorble Coll John Addison

   Garrison &

   ifrontiers wherein is set forth the great fear & consterna

   Potornock.. . tion the people (living at the Eastern branch of

   Potomock) are in, through dread of the Indians, who it is

   suspected, have since the Murther committed at the Garrison,

   thrown down the ifence belonging to the sd Garrison & drove

   out all the Rangrs horses &c: Ordered therefore tht (for the

   strengthening the said ifrontier Plantations & Garrison) the

   Colonel of Ann Arrundell, Calvert & Charles Counties do

   (upon sight hereof) each of them draw out, Tenn good

   Troopers, such as can be spared, well fitted & furnished, and

   if wanting of good arms of their own, that they be furnished

   out of the New Arms or other publick Arms, lodged with the P. 549

   said Colonels; Vizt Carbines Bagonets & Pistoils together

   with a sufficient Supply of Amunition And that each party

   carrye with thm a brass Lanthorn & Compass, some Granado

   pouches with Granado shells and ffuzes. And that care be

   taken tht they may carry with thm tenn days provision at the

   least, and have as many spare horses prest as may be

   necessary to carry the same & other baggage.

     And as to Officers to Command those Men, it is hereby

   ffurther Ordered that a Captain be sent out of Ann Arrundell

   County a Lievtent out of Calvert and a Cornet out of Charles

   County; and that they go directly with their sd Men with all

   possible speed vnto the honoble Coll John Addison, living in

   Prince George's County, where his Exncy intends (God willing)

   to go, in Ordr to meet them: Ten whereof are togo to the Gar

   rison, to strengthen that place, who are by turns to Range, one

   half at a time, betwixt the sd Garrison, and vp & down the

   Eastern Branch aforementioned; vntill they shall Receive

   some further directions from his Excy or Ordrs which may be

   left with the honoble Coll Addison aforesd thereabout. And
