                216 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.

         

         Lib. H D.  and Prohibit all persons whatsoever from sheltering bar

                bouring or any ways assisting the sd diserters but that on the

                Contrary they Seize and apprehend them so that they may be

                brought under Safe and Secure Conduct before me at the

                Port of Annapolis in Ordr to be sent on Board Some of his

            P. 131  Mats Ships of Warr, whereunto all persons Concern'd are to

                take due heed and Conform themselves accordingly as they

                will answr the Contrary at their Utmost perrill, the Sherriffs

                being Ordered to make publication hereof in all publick

                places within their respective Counties forthwith, Given at

                the Port and Town of Annapolis Under the Broad Seal of the

                Province this 20th day of September in the Ninth Year of the

                Reign of our Soveraign Lord King William the Third &ca

                Coll: Addison Just now Came two of Capt Brightwells men to

                murder of one give an Accot tht this day one John Baker one of

                of the Rangers the Rangers was killed about 3/4 of a mile from

         

                         the Garrison; his head and hands Cutt off and

                Carryed away; with his musket and Byonett and what other

                things he had with him; I shall take what Care may be in

                giving the People Notice and preparing what Small fforce is

                here to be in a Readiness; wishing yor Exncy Health, I am

                    I have Received yors of the 17th of August past,

                         as also both yors of the 3d of July foregoing and

         

                Render my hearty thanks to yor EXnCY as well for yor tender

                Reguard for his Matys Service in Encouraging what in you lay

                the sending of provisions for Supply of his Matys forces at

                Newfoundland as for the intelligence inclosed in yors the

                further confirmation whereof I must Expect from yor Excy or

                at least from your parts, this place being wholly barren of

                forraign News, and diverse Reports here stirring of Admiral

                Nevils Arrival with the Squadron vnder his Command &

                several ifrench prizes at Virginia, which I hope may hold true,

                and then yor Excy will first have the certainty thereof.

                  This Coast was lately infested by a small ffrench Privateer

                from Canada one Outlaw an English Renegade Commandr
