      taking of Esq  This is by Mr Cornelius Maddox who is de

      Tom an  sign'd to Endeavour to find a Pomunkey Indian

      Indian &ca     call'd Esq Tom, who is accused to be one of them

     

      that murdered the Woman and Children in Virginia, There

      fore would have you assist him what in you lies towards the

      discovery and taking of the Indian and for soe doing this

      shall be yor Warrant Given under my hand the day and year

      above Written

        To Mr Thomas Barbar of ffr: Nicholson

         St Maries County

                I hope yor Exncy hath rëcd an Accot of the

      Indians Indian Examinacon wch was sent by Mr Addison,

      tht contains as much as could then be gotten out of them in

      which one main thing was wanting (to witt) upon what

      grounds these disorders have been Comitted, And since the

      writing the above, Vizt This Evening it hath been my Good

      ffortune to make some discovery in that point wch I think my

      self Oblidg'd to prsent yor Exncy with (an in my poor sense)

      being a Specim: of the Pettie mischifs of last years perpe

      trated in yor Governmt wch perhaps may be streams from the

      same ffountain, the narrative here followes. This Evening I

      call'd at our high Sherriffs where Choptico Robin who

      made the ffirst discovery at liberty he being by the sd Officers

      so Indulged and his ffears thereby Abated he told me he

      would now make me fully sensible of the Cause of this

      Villany and thus began; Early in the Spring to witt about 5

      months last past Esq Tom was at or about the ifalls of Poto

      mock and there were some Piscattoway Indians & some of

      those Seniquos that live in the mountains amongst which last

      was a Susquehanah a great man whose name is monges, this

      Indian had much private Communication then with Esq Tom,

         noe other Indians knew or noted, he prsented him with a

      large belt of Peak, and told him that his Nation was Ruin'd

      by the English assisted by Piscattoway's, & tht now they were
