                 168 Proceedings of the council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.

          

          Lib. H. D. Violent opposicon and not long before I came from home I

                 was credibly Inform'd that the sd Hill and Clark had sent or

                 Demanded the Rents and taxes of the Inhabitants on the

                 South side of Rehoboth altho: the two years last past they

                 have been listed as inhabitants within Somerset County

                 threatning to drive away their Cattle or seizing their Goods,

                 whereby most of the Inhabitants are put in great terror to the

                 discouragemt & deterring sevr all others to seat there where

                 there is large Space for many ffamilies those already there for

                 the most part being desireous to Submit to the Governmt

                 here and have and doth desire protection from Us, And that

                 some prson may be Qualifyed a Justice of Peace to Reform

                 disorders none being nearer then Mr Round who is at prsent

                 absent and his habitacon at least 25: or 30: miles distant is

                 what humbly Reprsents itself from yor honrs with all due obser

                 vation
