Sr I Recd yor Exncys Letter of the 4th of June Instant Inti p. 521 mating your transmitting Some proceedings of a Comittee for Indian Affairs, relateing to the Piscattoway and Accokick Indians, which I forthwith laid before the Councill here, being then in Town; and upon due Consideracon do not under stand the meaning thereof; But if any miscarriage hath been by any Indians in this Governmt that it ought to have been ffirst Signifyed here for Orders therein, before any such proceedings I am Yor Exncys humble Servant E Andros

Ordered that an Answer thereto be Writ which was done as followes, Vizt
Maryland Port of Annapolis, June 24th 1697. Sr A Letter of your Exncys of the 12th of June instant I have Recd: and mine to you of the ffourth instant was as short and as intelligible as I could, so that it might not admit of a double meaning, as some have Endeavor'd theirs should do. I must Confess that I have so little understanding that I don't pretend to teach or find others any. Those Gentl which were sent by our Assembly to the Piscattoway and Accokick Indians of this his Mats Province of Maryland had Instructions to give yor EXnCY an Accot of their Arrivall in yor Governmt and of their Business, before they went to the sd Indians, as also when they Return'd, what they had done, which Instructions were from the House of Delegates, his Mats honrble Councill and Yor EXDCYS humble Servant Govt of Virga ffr: Nicholson
Produced and Read a Letter by his EXnCY recd from the honrble Coll: David Brown of Somerset County Dated the 15th Instant as also another from Mr ffrancis Jenckins of the Same Date giving an Account of their sending therewith Severall Navll Papers of Majr Robt King decd: in pursuance of a late Ordr of his Exncy to the sd End and purpose; which papers the sd Mr Jenckins (Son in Law to the Sd Majr King) writes were a great distance from his Mother in Laws House in Ordr for his sd ffathers Voyage for Annapolis to wait upon his Exncy had not Death put a Period to his days.
