                Exncy about   I send you here inclosed a Copy of his Mats

                sending Letter, wch I Received by an Express arriving the

         

              New found Ld    24th currant being heartily Sorry that this his Prov

                        ince are at this Juncture so much incapacitated to

         

                Comply with his Mats Comands and Expectations therein.

                 Yor Exncy cannot be altogether unsensible of the very sore

                Impressions which the Warr has made on this part of his Mats

                Dominions, not only in the heavy losses and Taxes Sustained

                by his Subjects here, but especially by the failing of the two

                last Years Crops wch has so impoverished and Streightn'd them

                that very many ifamilies at some seasons within these two

                Years past have not eaten a peice of Bread in a months time

                or more together And all sorts of Provisions by reason of the

                Scarcity thereof and the demands for Carrying on of the Warr

                have been at such excessive Rates tht the heads of ffamilies

                can scarcely produce so much by their Labour as to purchase

                what is absolutely Needfull for the Support of their ffamilies.

                Nor is there a Sufficiency of Provisions here for the Necessities

                of the Province.

                 The Generall Assembly now sitting have under Consider

                ation the Import of his Mats Letter. In the mean time I

                esteemed it necessary for his Mats service, to make yor Self ac

                quainted with his Comands in this Respect not doubting of yor

                Readiness to encourage the sending of such Provisions,
