minutes therefore, desire to know if he may attend thereon
and is told he may.
Whereupon the Gentlemen departe this house.
Resolved by the house that a certaine opinion of the Kings
Lawyers signed by George Plater Wm Dent and Robert
Gouldsborough Esq. bearing date the 14th day of October
1697 wherein they have Given Councill to his Excy the Gov-
ernour in these words.

May it please your Excellcy
We have considered the within returne of the Justices of
Calvert County Court relating to James Crauford and we are
of opinion that it is contempt in the Justices in not obeying
your Excys orders.
We are also of opinion that your Excy may dismiss or sus-
pend any person from practiceing the Law within this pro-
vince upon Just and sufficient cause shewn to your Excy The
process proper agt the said Judges is a venire facias unless
your Excy will be pleased to call them before yourselfe and the
honble his Matys privy Councill.
All which we do humbly Submitt to your Excy

Wm Dent
Robert Goldsborrough.

Is a very dangerous opinion tending to the depriveing of
people of theire freehold and liberty upon bare suggestion,
without any presentment of their peers and to the Exasperat-
ing his Excy the Govr agt the Justices of the peace &c of this
province unjustly for protecting people in theire Rights.
Whereupon Resolved the following address be sent to his
Excy the Governor &c and his Matys honble Councill:

To his Excy Francis Nicholson Esqr and his Matys Honbe
Councill.

The humble adress of all the Delegates of his Matys Pro-
vince of Maryland now in Assembly sitting.
Whereas it was complained to us that Mr George Plater,
Mr William Dent and Mr Robert Goldsborough had signed a
certaine opinion abt Law which your Excy was generously
pleased to lett us have att our humble request, this house
upon full hearing of theire Argumts and prsidents, have
Resolved that it is a very dangerous opinion giving liberty to
the depriving and forejudging his Matys Subjects of theire
freehold and livelyhood upon bare suggestions without any
