Then Came in Debate the Demand of S^r Thomas Laurence

Barr^t as p^rsident of Maryland ag^t the Estate of Col Nicholas

Greenbery deceased late p^rsident of his Matys hon^ble Councill
w^thin this province.

Whereupon produced and read the following Rep^rsentation
in these words Viz^t

To his Ex^cy Nathaniel Blakiston Esq^r Cap^t Gen^ll and
Governo^r of Maryland in Councill.

S^r Thomas Laurence late p^rsident of his Matys hon^ble Coun-
cill of this province humbly rep^rsenteth unto yo^r Excellency
That the said S^r Thomas by their Matys Royall Instructions
to Col Lyonel Copley late Governo^r of this province was ap-
pointed first Councello^r of this his Matys province of Maryl^d as
by the same Instructions may Appear That after your Suppli-
cant Came into this province he Entred upon and Executed
the said trust for some small time till the s^d Governo^r Copley
without any Iust Cause Suspended him from the Trust and
Station and Comitted him to prison without Baile or Mainprize
as by the Records of the Councill may Appear
That on or ab^t the 12^th of Sep^t 1693 the s^d Lyonel Copley
Dyed whereupon your Supplicant Came to St Marys and there
being no person Impowered to Comand in Chiefe the Gov-
ernm^t Divolved on the Councill whereof your Supplicant was
p^rsident as af^d and so it remained some small time.
But in About a fortnight or three weeks time to witt the
25^th Sep^t S^r Edmund Andros Came from Virginia and Claimed

the Governm^t by Virtue of a Comission (which though Imper-
fect) he Entred upon and yo^r Supplicant and the other Coun-
cello^rs were sworne and Sate in Councill for ab^t ten days And
then S^r Edmond going over to Virginia instead of leaving your
Supplicant p^rsident which was his due appointed Col Nicholas
Greenbery president
That Afterwards about the 3^d of ffeb^ry 1693 Advice of his
late Matys Anulling the said Suspencon Came to the said
Col Greenbery and the order thereof shewed him but was not
obeyed and yo^r Supplicant kept from his place till the 7^th day
of May 1694 and then and not before was he putt in possession
of his place and therein Continued till the Arrivall of his Ex^cy
Col Francis Nicholson into this province which was ab^t the
End of Iuly 1694:
