Assembly Proceedings, Oct.io-Nov. 12, 1698. 263

By the house of Delegates Novr 11th 1698.

Whereas by a message by the honble Collo Iohn Addison
and Thomas Brookes Esqr the honble Councill have desired a
conference with some of the members of this house in Relation
to Two bills proposed by the honble Councill Vizt An act for
Regulating Marriages and Granting marriage Licenses, and
An act for promotion of Learning and advancement of his
Majtys Free Schoole of Maryland, the latter of which this house
have consented to, and have ordered Capt Richd Hill, Mr
Michaell Miller and Mr William Harris to Ioyne in a Confer-
ence with two of his^Matys: honble Councill, when they shall
please to appoint. Signed by Order
C Gregory clk: house of Delegates.

Read the other Message Vizt

By his Excelly the Govr Novr 16th 1698.

Whereas the house refuse to make allowance to Esq. Smith
Major Hammond, Capt Hill and Mr Tasker.
Ever since I had the honour to Govn under his most sacred
Majesty here have allways Endeavoured to put the Country to
as little charge as possible might be. I thought it for his
Majties Service (as I found it) to call Mr Robert Smith, Major
Hammond, Capt Hill and Mr Tasker to assist me with their
advice in Councill as likewise in point of Law as they were
provinciall Iustices for the preservation of the peace of this
his Maj's province, which was most notoriously and violently
broke and carried so high that it tended to Rebellion.
I likewise ordered Majr William Dent his Majtys Attory
Genll to attend upon me and the Councill this assembly, but I
find that you have not allowed him any thing for his Service
done to his Majty and the Country. Therefore must naturally
conclude that some of you are not well affected to his Matys
Interest and the peace and quiett of this his Maj'ys province.
His Majty is pleased that there should be Twelve of his
honble Councill but at psent there is but Seven and there is
now noe charge to the Country for a Councill chamber.
Signed p order,
W Bladen clk: Councill.

Resolved that this house will not further proceed on any
business but what at present lies before them, and refers the
same to the Consideracon of the next Generall Assembly.
A Bill acertaineing how and when Execution may be
granted for publick officers ffees, read the first and second
time.
