Assembly Proceedings, Oct. 20-Nov. 12, 1698. 231

Mr Wm Bladen clk: of his Matys honble Councill Enter the
house and presents severall papers to Mr Speaker.
Ordered that the same be referred till to morrow Morning.
The house adjournes till to Morrow Morning Eight of Clock.

Dies Mercurij Novembo the 2d 1698.

The house mett and were called over, and were absent Mr
Philip Clarke, Mr Geo: Ashman and Mr Wm Hemsley.
Read over what was done yesterday.
Mr Hicks, Mr Bozman, Mr Collins, Major Smallwood, Mr
Hawkins and Major Lowe say they delivered the message by
them sent.
The mocon yesterday made concerning the Roofe of the
church and referred till this morning was debated and ordered
that the Comittee that was Especially appointed to Inspect the
Publick charge of building &c. consider thereof
Put to the vote for as much as there is no post within this
province, whether a bill shall be prepared to allow the Sher-
riffes of the Severall countyes a certaine Sallary for the dis-
patching all Letters and packetts as shall be for his Matys
Service.
Carried Nemine Contradicente in the affirmative.
Ordered that the Comittee of Laws prepare such bill and
to Consider therein the trouble which some Sherriffes may
have more than others, in the dispatching Letters and packetts.
Mr Edward Lloyd brings in the bill which he was ordered
yesterday to prepare.
A Bill for the punishment of privateers and pyrates, read
the first time.
A Bill for Impowering the churchwardens, Vestrymen, and
Severall more of the parishioners to assess the parishioners for
repairing churches, read the first time.
The Message yesterday brought by the Honble Collo Henry
Iowles, and Thomas Brookes Esqr and referred till this morn-
ing was read, Vizt

By his Excy the Govr and Councill in Assembly
Nov. the Ist 1698.

Recomended to the house that they will appoint some of
their members to Joyne with Colo Iowles and Esq. Brookes to
Examine and Margent the Laws transcribed according to the
directions of the Right honble the Lord of the Councill for
Trade and fforeigne plantations and that care be taken to
have the samed Coppied according to the Agreemt wth his
honr Coll: Iowles and Majr Hamond.
