It is thought by many that the Count D'staign would be in
possession of Savannah the 12^th Inst, so that he may now be
Hourly expected. The Enemy are making the greatest prep-
arations to receive him. He has evacuted Stoney & Ver-
plank points, first have I Distroy'd & burnt everything in His
power
The Cayuga's & some others of the Six Nations are Sueing
ior peace. No late intelligence from Europe.
I did intend to set out for Annapolis as to day, but the business
I mentioned in my last not being yet brought before Congress,
owing to the Absence of M^r Witharspoon.
I have determind to stay all the week rather then leave this
business unreported. I must therefore request the Senate (should
I not be down in time) to chuse a President in my room. By
thursday the 4^th of Nov. if God Spares me I shall be down in
the mean time I am with the greatest Affection & esteem

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Nicholas
Thomas Esq^r six hundred and twenty five Pounds, four shill-
ings and two pence due him as one of the Judges of the Gen^l
Court to the 24^th Instant
That the said Treasurer pay to William Logan one hundred
and fifty Pounds per Account passed by the Dep^y Aud.
That the said Treasurer pay to His Excellency Thomas
Johnson Esquire three hundred Pounds in part of his Salary
That the said Treasurer pay to Thomas Slaughter seventy
five Pounds due him per Account passed by the Dep^y Aud.
That the said Treasurer pay to Lieut John Jeremiah Jacob
for the following Officers of the 2^d Maryland Regim^t to wit,
Lieut Col^o Woolford, Major Steward, Captains John Davidson
John Gale, Capt Lieut, Benjamin Price, Lieut^s John Gassaway,
Edward Edgerly, James Ewing, Ensigns William Woolford
and Hezekiah Ford Surgeon Walter Warfield and Surgeons
Mate Ezekiel Haynie Seven hundred and fifty Pounds each
the allowance made by the late Act of Assembly amounting in
the whole to nine thousand Pounds
That the said Treasurer pay to the said Lieut John Jere.
Jacob for the following Officers of the 4^th Maryland Regim^t
to wit Col^o Hall, Captains Jonathan Sellman, Edward Oldham,
