Thursday 9 September 1779

Present as on Yesterday
Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Lieut
Stephen Shelmerdine of the 4th Regimt three thousand Dollars
on Account of that Regt Three thousand Dollars for Lieut
Thomas Cromwell of the same Regimt and also two thousand
Dollars for Lieut John Bailey of the 3d Regt for the Recruiting
Service to be accounted for
That the said Treasurer pay to the said Lieut Stephen
Shelmerdine of the 4th Regimt two thousand Dollars, also two
thousand Dollars for Lieut Thomas Cromwell of the same
Regt and two thousand Dollars for Lieut John Bailey of the 3d
Regt in leiw of the Articles for the present year allowed by
the late Act of Assembly
Capt Gale, John Chain has offered Michael Paine who says
he was born in Calvert County and that he came hither in a
Boat with one Copper, in his stead. If on enquiry of Copper
you find Paine is at Liberty you may inlist him instead of John
Chain to whom on its being done give a Discharge hereon
John Chever is appointed a second Lieut of the Compy of
Matross's ordered to Camp by the General Assembly
Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Lieut John
Chever, two thousand Dollars in leiw of the Articles for the
present Year allowed by the late Act of Assembly
That the said Treasurer pay to William Bigg Forty Pounds
ten shillings p Acct passed by the Depy Aud.
That the said Treasurer pay to Como Thomas Grason Sixty
seven Pounds ten shillings for the use of Robert Littell p Acct
passed by the Aud. Genl
That the said Treasurer pay to Thomas Hyde Eighty four
Pounds, fifteen shillings due him p Accot passed by the Aud.
Genl
That the said Treasurer pay to Elie Vallette Thirty seven
Pounds, ten shiles for 1 Mo Salary as Depy Aud. p Acct passed
by the Aud. Genl
That the said Treasurer pay to Como Thomas Grason, Three
hundred and seven Pounds, sixteen shillings to purchase Plank
for the use of the State on Account

Colo Forrest mentions to us that it may be useful to leave
Saml Chester of the Matrosses behind, that he had desired he
might stay in the Fort, 'til Orders from hence. His diligence
