it is not to be wondered at that some have taken Place to the
Dissatisfaction of the Companies; the Instances are not so
numerous as might have been expected. Where Appointments
have been made improperly either from the Officers not being
the most capable or against the general Inclination of the
Companies, there is no Power left in the Government to dis-
place the Officers, or I should most chearfully concur to give
Content by more proper Appointments. In some Cases, the
Gen' have given us a Power of new Appointmts by giving up
their Commissions and I wish, as it seems so generally the
Wish of the Company, that Capt White had done so but from
what Mr Ijams tells me, he is disinclined to do it and so have
some few others. As I am circumstanced I may do it with Pro-
priety and therefore intend to represent to the Assembly at
the next Session, the Necessity, as it appears to me, of giving
the future Governr & Council a Power of issuing new Com-
missions, where the Public Service might be promoted by it ;
but, in the mean Time I flatter myself that you will do your
Duty as a Company of Militia under Capt White which, un-
doubtedly, will induce the more Attention to your Complaint
