[Council to A. Buchanan.]
In Council Annapolis 20th May 1779
Sir.
The Conduct & Situation of the Enemy, invading Virginia,
render highly probable the Account of the Deserter mentioned
in Joseph Whites Deposition; " that they intend to attack
Baltimore Town." You are therefore hereby empowered to
assemble the Militia of your County and endeavour by all
Means to repel the Enemy. The inclosed Letter to Colo
Dallam contains Orders to march immediately to Baltimore,
as many of the Militia of his County as he can arm. The
Pork sent up in the Genl Smallwood & the Flour purchased
by Mr Govane, we would have applied to the Subsistance of
the Militia you will be pleased to direct it to be placed in a
safe and convenient Situation. Neither of the Lookout Boats
have yet come in. Pray forward Colo Dallam's Letter
We are &ca
Andw Buchanan Esq
Lt of Balto County
