of the Council of Maryland, 1778-1779. 293

[Council to Gist.]

In Council Annapolis 4th Feby 1779
Sir
Capt Murray has expectations of being exchanged for Capt
Frazier of the Prize taken by Capt Sanders, and thinks it
may be immediately brought about by sending Capt. Frazier
up to Philadelphia; you will therefore give Capt Frazier up
to Capt. Murray or the Person he may appoint to receive him
for the Purpose of carrying him to Philadelphia.
Genl Gist.

[Council to Bradford.]

In Council Annapolis 4th Feby 1779
Sir.
A Privateer from New York a few Days ago, took a Vessel
from St Eustatia, bound and belonging to Virginia; the
Captors immediately manned her and, far within the Cape she
attacked Capt Sanders in a Sloop, a private armed Vessel
owned in this State; Capt Sanders proved too hard for the
Assailants and retook the Virginian; we have ordered the
Prize Master or Captain, one Frazier to Philadela with
Intention that he should be exchanged for Capt Alexander
Murray who was taken in Novemr in the Brig Saratoga,
owned in this State, by the Unicorn Frigate, and has been per-
mitted to come out of New York on Parole. We apprehend
there can be no Objection to the Exchange; we have desired
and shall be obliged to you for having it effected as soon as
may be.
