in our Power to render them effectual. We cannot give the
Direction or Officering of the State Vessels into the Hands of
others, it is incompatible with our Duty, but we should be glad
to have a Conversation with any of you and some of the Offi-
cers who are proposed for the Service, on the Subject of the
Letter, and flatter ourselves that the Matter may be conducted
to the Satisfaction of every Body and with, at least, as much
Despatch as on the Plan proposed

Messrs Saml & Robt Purviance & the
other Gent of Balto subscribing the
Letter of the 29th Iany to Govr
Johnson.

Present as on Friday
Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Lieut.
Charles Smith of the Ist Maryland Regiment, One hundred
and fifty Pounds due him by Resolve of the G. Assy
That the said Treasurer pay to John Davidson two hundred
and eighty two Pounds for the Use of and to be delivered
over to Archibald Buchanan being a just and reasonable
Allowance to the said A. Buchanan in the Opinion of this
Board for the use of his Ship yard whilst the Independence
and Annapolis were building as well as for his own Services
in and about superintending the said Vessels under the
Agreement made the first Day of Augt 1776 with the then
Council of Safety
That the Commissary of Stores deliver to Lieut Charles
Smith 6 pair Shoes and 5 pair Stockings for the first Regiment.

Tuesday 2d February 1779

Present as on yesterday
Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Benja
Mackall Esqr seven Pounds, eleven shillings per Acct passed
by the Aud. Genl
Commissions issued to Nathaniel Wilson appointed Captain
Allen Roberts Ist Lieut, John Mills 2d Lieut and Joseph Taney
Ensign of a Compy of Calvert County

Wednesday 3d February 1779
