Musketts 90 Tons burthen navigated by 50 Men belonging to
William Patterson, and also to James Handy Comr of the
Sloop Abingdon mounting 8 Carriage Guns, 4 Swivels and
16 small Arms, 50 Tons burthen navigated by 14 Men and
belonging to Saml and Robert Purviance &Co

In Council 14th Septr 1778.
Sir.
The Terms on which you proposed to go in the Defence to
France appearing to us very high, we made what Enquiry we
had an Opportunity into the Terms given by the Merchants
for the like Voyage, and propose, if agreeable to you, to allow
thirty Pounds a Month to be paid here, the Wages to be paid
up to the Time of sailing from hence and considered as due
to your Arrival in France. On the Event of your arriving
there, fifty Pounds Currency to be paid here for Cabbin Stores
from hence, the Freight of six Hogsheads of Tobacco, sixty
Pounds Sterling to be paid in France and half a Crown Ster-
ling a Day whilst in a foreign Port, the same Quantity of
Freight in as out, ten Pounds Sterling to be paid in France
for Cabbin Stores there and one Half the Passage Money, if
any Cabbin Passengers, this to be full of all Wages, Privileges
and Perquisites whatever, and is considerably better than any
Allowance we hear of and 30 p Ct better than many, equal to
the Business, have accepted. If you accept, we shall be glad
of having your Assistance as soon as may be, and if our Offer
should not be agreeable to you, we wish your Answer, that
we may endeavour to get a Captain without Loss of Time.

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Jacques
Bagues eleven Pounds, three shillings and four Pence, per
Acct passed by the A Gl
That the said Treasurer pay to John Gibson twenty one
Pounds per Account passed by the Aud. Genl
That the Comy of Stores deliver to Lieut Jacques Bagues
one pair of Shoes.
